125 - Washing bat

LOCAL WOMEN used to wash their clothes in cis- terns or in vessels (“plystoskafi”). Then, they struck the clothes with the washing bat to clean them. The washing bat, or “lefkastira” as it is known in the local dialect, was a wooden tool with a long handle, which ended in a wide surface.
