080 - Carder

MAKESHIFT TOOL used in the processing of wool. After the wool was gathered from the sheep, it was washed and left to dry. Then, they gathered small amounts, which were twisted between the two sur- faces of the carder, in order to clean and stretch out the fibers. The carded wool was wrapped in small balls, the so-called clumps, which in turn were processed on the distaff to make fibers for weaving.
