169 - Seabed painting

PAINTING FROM THE SEABED SERIES, painted with oil on canvas with the use of the palette knife, a technique that the artist often used in his works. The place where he was inspired to create this work is Panormos at Tinos Island, at Kavalourkos. Mr. Maniatakos stressed that this is not abstract art, but a realistic depiction of the natural environment at the bottom of the sea. It is worth mentioning that painting in the sea has many difficulties that the artist had to surpass, in order to be able to make art in such a unique way and express himself artistically. The artist even had to make the canvases for his works, because the canvases that he found in the trade contained water soluble components and were thereby destroyed.

Donor: Ioannis Maniatiakos
