145 - Harani

LARGE COPPER POT without lid or handles. It is a large cauldron for outdoor use, which was placed on andirons (triangular iron base) or two stone blocks, under which a fire made of thick woods was made. It was also used for boiling water with a bag of ash (lye), which was added to soften the water for washing clothes, as well as for making soap from used oils and raki as a match. If the pot had tinplate inside, it would also be used for boiling pork for salt preservation and preparing swΕΕΤ frumenty. This harani was found in the court- yard of the house of the donor and was used by his mother-in-law.
