156 - Beekeeper’s mask

MAKESHIFT MASK worn on the face by local bee- keepers. The front has a protective wooden net, which allowed beekeepers to see and be protected by bee stings. It was applied on the head with the help of a fabric, which was open at the bottom. When beekeepers wanted to harvest honey in May or August, they drugged bees with the bee smoker and removed the desired quantity while wearing this mask, with the help of a knife with a special handle. Previously, locals used a simple mask, the so-called “barbouta”, made of cob sprouts, which was kept in front of the face with the help of a wooden handle.
